DPW-Engineering Division Engineering Intern

                 Full time summer position working 37.5 hours a week under the direction of DPW-Engineering Division staff.  Position responsibilities will include a combination of office and field work and may include work such as compliance inspection for the County’s MS4 program, infrastructure inventory using GPS equipment, ADA compliance inspections, and assistance with filing, digitization and preservation of existing historical design documents.  Depending on level of education and experience, additional work may include review of and assistance with construction paperwork and cost estimating, involvement in construction inspection, hydraulic analysis of culverts and/or culvert inspection, and work in AutoCAD.

$14.00/hr

(supplies and equipment provided by Broome County)

Students currently enrolled in civil engineering (or other similar engineering or environmental) programs that are competent with Microsoft Office products (Word, Excel, etc.) are encourage to apply.

Experience with AutoCAD is a plus.

The Greater Binghamton Airport is looking for an intern available to work from the spring until the end of the summer. This intern will work under the direction of the Commissioner of Aviation and the Deputy Commissioner of Aviation. Intern responsibilities will include but are not limited to a combination of office and field work  with a focus on Airport Administration. This position is ideal for those interested in event planning, airline relations, government procurement, facilities management, and marketing. The intern will be relied upon to assist with event duties, deliveries, and planning. Additional duties may include computer work, research, filing, inventory, design work, and social media utilization. .

Lead Poisoning Prevention Program Intern
Assists Lead Risk Assessors with visual assessments, dust sampling, XRF inspection of housing units. This will include drawing floor plans, taking notes and photographs. Assists staff with other program educational activities and events as needed. Assists in writing reports and maintenance of records of lead hazard remediation progress. Interacts with owners and tenants of housing units. Special projects based on the goals of the program and internship are considered.

This internship position is available at two local Adult Day Care (ADC) program sites (Endwell, Binghamton). As an intern you would get the opportunity to assist in leading recreational activities as well as program planning and implementation. Most ADC clients have physical or cognitive impairments and may be socially isolated. Your role will be to interact with ADC clients and assist ADC staff with group activities such as chair exercises, art and music therapy, discussions, inter-generational activities, table games etc. Current anticipated need for interns: Fall 2022.

This internship is supervised jointly by Caregiver Services and Information and Assistance (I&A), units within the Broome County Office for Aging.
Unlike many health and human service-related internships, which may emphasize clerical duties, this program offers students extensive opportunities for direct client interaction. Besides writing articles and updating or creating brochures, the intern may be able to participate in assessing clients’ needs in the community setting, and in helping clients to navigate available resources by collaborating with various health and social service professionals within this highly multidisciplinary department.
The position is flexible in terms of overall length and weekly time commitment. Applicants should be comfortable with self-directed work, enjoy working with seniors, and be enthusiastic about addressing the challenges of eldercare in our aging society.
